Choosing project delivery vs dedicated capacity
How to pick the right engagement model for infrastructure, security, and software work.
- engagement
- delivery
Introduction
Not every mandate needs the same commercial model. Choosing between project delivery and dedicated capacity early prevents mismatched expectations.
When project delivery fits
Use scoped engagements when outcomes are well bounded:
Migrations with a defined cutover window
Security assessments and remediation sprints
Building a discrete application module or MVP
When dedicated capacity fits
Choose embedded capacity when context compounds over time:
Ongoing platform ownership and on-call readiness
Continuous security posture improvement
Product engineering that needs deep stack familiarity
A simple decision test
Ask: Will the next three months look like the last three? If the work is repeating and context-heavy, dedicate capacity. If it is a one-time outcome, run a project.
